All Along 04:20
All along the wire wall Withstood the summer, not the fall Laid to rest beside the run We make our way up towards the sun My mother's father marked this trail Before his cedar braces failed And iron met the underbrush Open borders, dust to dust All along, I took a stand The art of war, the heart of man I'd dig my feet into the dirt And separate the sacred earth Who's to say I had it wrong? Those barbs were sharp, they made me strong I leaned alone into the breeze In search of some divine relief All along, I lost my way That wire wall will fall someday Heron will commune with hen The cattle will roam free again My mother's father knew it well The devil's rope can bring you hell He found his peace beside the run And made his way Up towards the sun

Motorway 04:37
I saw my days laid out in front of me This morning out the kitchen window You load the car, I'll wipe the dishes clean We'll be back home by noon tomorrow My love, I can feel your weight Against the bars of this peculiar cage Where else would you rather be? We're not escaping anything The empty hours burn like kerosene The open road's a loaded weapon I think I'm running out of dopamine I'll chase it till the sun is setting So much for purple mountain majesty So much for reaching West Virginia You turn the wheel, I turn the other cheek And fade into the scenery My god, how much time we waste Forcing meaning on the motorway My spirit won't leave the state We're not escaping anything We're all susceptible to gravity It's something that I take for granted It keeps me closer to the tumbleweeds And all the lovely seeds I've planted It pulls me towards these twisted city streets To neon lights and needy lovers Another technicolor casualty Another piece of history My friend, let me see your face Take your troubles off the motorway This life is a lucid dream We're not escaping anything We're not escaping anything We're not escaping anything

about

“Meanwhile” is a ten song exploration of the relationship between two titans of American improvised music: jazz and bluegrass. Bryce Rabideau’s mandolin-led trio compositions draw from an eclectic array of sources ranging from Wayne Shorter to Bela Fleck, 80s fusion to contemporary chamber folk, urban cityscapes to pastoral countrysides.

Accompanied by John Bagnato on acoustic guitar and Jason Rafalak on upright bass, Rabideau uses each track as an opportunity to weave an intricate narrative between three disparate characters. The result is a cohesive suite that elevates the instruments out of their occasional role in modern American folk as auxiliary time-keepers and delightfully rails against a listener’s expectations at every turn.

Bryce Rabideau Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Bryce Rabideau is a genre-hopping composer and multi-instrumentalist with a background in jazz and roots music. When he's not touring the country with progressive folk band Buffalo Rose, he's indulging in mandolin-based mad science in an effort to uncover niches the instrument has not yet inhabited. ... more
